Man injured after fall into water tank

A man was injured after he fell 10 to 15 feet into a water storage tank on Thursday in Coral Springs.

The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. when the man, who is a subcontractor, lost his footing on the ladder he was using inside the tank during an inspection. This caused him to fall off the ladder to the bottom of the tank. There was no water in the tank and it was free of hazardous objects.

To safely remove the man from the tank, rescue workers strapped him to a stretcher and removed him with a crane. He was brought to the North Broward Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A Florida woman was recently awarded $23 million in her surgical error lawsuit against the University of Florida’s Shands Teaching Hospital.  Lanette Gervato left the hospital with a permanent disability after going in for surgery on a non-bleeding aneurysm in her brain.

Gervato, then 35-years old, went to the hospital after suffering continuous headaches.  Doctors found that she had a non-bleeding aneurysm in her brain and performed a surgery to insert coils into the aneurysm.  According to court documents, during the operation, one surgeon perforated an artery in her brain.  In addition, after the operation, Gervato displayed symptoms of a post-surgical stroke but doctors were delayed in their diagnosis.  As a result, Gervato’s brain filled with blood and suffered permanent damage.
