After causing a crash on I-95 that left one person injured on Tuesday night, a driver jumped 45 feet off the side of an interchange.

The 23-year-old man was driving south at high speeds along I-5 when he lost control of the vehicle. The 1993 Chevy crashed into the side of a 2004 BMW, rear-ended a 2001 Mazda, and hit a concrete center divider near Belvedere Road. After the incident, the man exited his vehicle, fled from the scene, and jumped over the side of the freeway. The man was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center and is in critical condition.

The driver of the BMW, a Boca Raton man, suffered from minor injuries.

Florida mother and 2 kids killed in train accident

Posted on June 16th, 2010 No Comments

Three people died in an automobile accident Monday. An Amtrak passenger train struck their vehicle as they attempted to drive through a railroad crossing in Lake Como, Florida. The mother and her two children were at a non-gated private train crossing when the train collided with their vehicle. The private train crossing boasts a stop sign, but the flashing red lights that mark most busy railway crossings are absent since it is part of a driveway that connects two houses. Police said that the family, who was leaving one of the homes, failed to look both ways before crossing, and the train broadsided the car. The train was traveling at approximately 70 miles per hour.

No one on the train was injured. The train had to stop about 1,900 feet away from the accident spot to allow officials to make an investigation. The train also had to undergo some repair before moving on. People waiting for the train had to sit for 6 hours while their ride was repeatedly delayed without explanation.

Our deepest condolences go out to all the family and friends of those involved in this tragic accident.
