The Coral Springs city commission is expected to approve a settlement today, Tuesday the 24th, for a personal injury award of around $500,000 filed by an ex-city employee.
In the lawsuit, the ex-employee maintains that in June, 2006, as a civilian member of the police department, she slipped while cleaning equipment with a hose. She fell backward and suffered permanent injures.
The settlement, which includes attorney’s fees and compensation for the ex-employee’s surgeries and prescription drugs, is described by Susan Grant, director of human resources and finance, as “in the best interests of the city.”
The city will pay about $300,000 while its insurer will pick up the rest. If the case went to trial, analysts have warned the city that an additional $55,000 would likely be tacked on.
